Moon Ads

Nobody wants freeze-dried food. They want home food, abroad.

In short: “Freeze-dried” sounded processed, and no ad could fix that. We positioned Bowlful for Indians travelling and living abroad, built a Shopify store around combos and Jain ranges, and moved Meta budget only to what returned 4x or better. Bowlful now does ₹25 lakh+ a month in sales at 4+ ROAS, grew to 20,000 Instagram followers organically, and was named on Forbes India’s DGEMS 2025 list.

Bowlful makes freeze-dried Indian meals: ready in five minutes, zero preservatives. A good product. But when we started, it had a word problem.

The misconception came first

“Freeze-dried” makes most people think of astronaut food, or something heavily processed. Ads that led with the technology were asking people to get over a doubt before they could get interested. That is expensive. Every rupee of ad spend was first spent arguing with a misconception.

“Their creative campaigns and strategic execution helped us debunk common misconceptions about freeze-dried food.”
Denil Dedhia, founder of Bowlful

Who is it really for?

Nobody wakes up wanting freeze-dried food. But a lot of people wake up wanting their mother’s pav bhaji in a hostel in Toronto, or a proper meal on a long trip. For Indians travelling and living abroad, “ready in five minutes, zero preservatives, tastes like home” is not a technology. It is relief.

So that became the story. The technology moved from the headline to the explanation.

The store does the selling

Positioning is wasted if the store doesn’t back it up. The Shopify store was built around how people actually buy food for travel: combos that stock a trip or a month, and Jain ranges for a large group of buyers who are usually an afterthought. Both raise order values without raising ad costs.

Spend follows return

On Meta, budget moved only to what brought orders at 4x return or better, rather than to whatever brought the most reach. That rule is boring, and it is why Bowlful can do ₹25 lakh+ a month at 4+ ROAS instead of buying growth at a loss.

A following you don’t pay for

Alongside the ads, content built an audience of 20,000 on Instagram without paid followers. Warm audiences make ads cheaper: people who already know the brand need less persuading when an ad finds them.

What to take from it

  1. Find the doubt before you buy reach. If people misunderstand what you sell, ads will only spread the misunderstanding faster.
  2. Describe the moment, not the method. “Home food abroad” sells. “Freeze-dried” explains.
  3. Let the store raise order value. Combos and specific ranges do more for margin than a cheaper click.
  4. Set a return floor and stick to it. Growth that loses money on every order is just a slower way to stop.
